Roses, Thistles, and Skunk Cabbages

For the past twenty years, at least, I have unabashedly been a fan of the "Anne of Green Gables" series. I love Anne and her wild imagination, magnitism for calamity, and fierce ability to love. One of my favorite "Anne moments" is her logic while lamenting over the plainness of her name. She referenced Shakespeare saying, "I read in a book once that a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but I've never been able to believe it. I don't believe a rose WOULD be as nice if it was called a thistle or a skunk cabbage."

It makes sense to me! Can you imagine Valentine's Day? The hopeful, love struck women anticipating their special delivery of a dozen skunk cabbages.

It just doesn't have the same effect as a dozen roses.

Perhaps because there is more to a name that just the letters and phonemes that make it up. A name is more than just a word. A name represents character.

This is precisely why the name change here. The initial posts recorded my frustrations and joys as a new mom. Then, it morphed into a stay-at-home-mom-saving-money-sharing-Jesus-homeschooly blog. Now with my new refined purpose comes a new name. I will keep my old posts active, as they are part of the journey; however, the character of this blog has changed.

From here on out this will be "Practicing Eucharisteo" or practicing Thankfulness. More of what that means next time. So, dear friend, let's journey together.
