Interruptions and Exploding Pyrex

Sweet Pea's latest obsession is a British cartoon on Nick Jr. called "Peppa Pig." She would spend every waking moment watching this if I allowed it. I have to admit, sometimes she does get to watch more than I usually allow, especially when I need to get something done.

One such moment was yesterday. She had already watched 30 minutes, but I had yet to finish sterilizing the new pacifiers for Sunshine.  Since I am currently visiting my in-laws, I am working on an unfamiliar range. I accidentally turned the wrong burner on. I thought I had corrected my mistake; however, I hadn't.

The neighbor's glass casserole dish lay on the warming burner. Next to it sat a pot of sterilizing pacifiers. I stood over the range watching. At that moment Sweet Pea's episode of "Peppa" ended.  I hear her call from the other room, "Mommy, I want watch "Peppa Pig" again!"

I walked out of the kitchen to the living area where Sweet Pea watches tv. At that moment the unmistakable sound of shattering, exploding glass fills the air. Instantly, I knew what happened.

I carefully tip toe around the corner to small chunks and shards of glass covering the range, counter, and floor. The range heated some pieces so much they melted to the floor or chairs as they cooled.

The largest piece of glass, in the shape if the burner.

The kitchen was a disaster area; however, it was far less disastrous than it could have been if Sweet Pea hadn't interrupted me.

If "Peppa Pig" hadn't ended at that moment leaving Sweet Pea wanting more, she wouldn't have a need to call for me. If she hadn't called for me, I might have been in the kitchen. If I had been in the kitchen, I might have ended up with a face full of glass and who knows what kind of injuries.

Some might chalk up my near miss as coincidence, but I'm not so convinced. I think they are glimpses into what might have been; like my almost disaster with the Pyrex.

Oftentimes, these moments display the hand of God in our lives. He allows us to experience these moments to recognize his protection and his presence. God is ever present in our lives, it's usually only when we experience pain or suffering we shake our fists and ask where He is.  But He is there.

He is the unseen hand that guides you from disaster. He is the presence that comforts you in the pain. He is the giver of wonderful blessings. He is present in the mundane. He is there whether you choose to see Him or not.

Let me encourage you today to open your eyes to the presence of God. Choose this day to see Him in all things: the coincidences, the mundane, the blessing, and the pain. He's there.
