Read Hebrews 1
Question #1
Write in your notebook what you believe the theme or main idea of this passage is. Share it below.Question #2
As you read, what verse or verses jump out at you? Write that verse down. This will be your memory verse for the week. For example I wrote down Hebrews 1:3. This week I will work on memorizing this verse. Why memorize scripture? For an excellent answer read this article by John Piper.Question #3
Hebrews is filled with references to Christ. I have a section in my notebook labeled "Christology" which is the study of nature and person of Jesus Christ. Under this section I have two master lists labeled "Names and Titles of Jesus" and "the Works and Deeds of Jesus". Mine looks something like this...Give yourself a few pages at the back of your notebook to make your own Christology section. As you read Hebrews 1 write the names/titles of Jesus and work/deeds of Jesus you find. Leave room between the names so you can add scripture references. This will be a great resource as we study Hebrews, but also as you read other books in the Bible.
What are some of the most powerful names or titles of Christ you wrote? What do they tell you about his character and nature? What kind of encouragement can you take from this? Share your thoughts below.
Question #4
Read carefully Hebrews 1:1-4. Notice the different ways, times, means, etc. in which God spoke. Make a chart in your notebook titled "God Spoke" similar to the one below. Looking carefully at the comparisons made in verses 1-4, write the answers in each column.God Spoke
When?

Through Whom?

To Whom?

How Often?
Now read Numbers 12:6-8. What were the various ways in which God spoke to the prophets? In what ways is God revealing himself through prophets inferior to his revelation through Jesus Christ? Share your answers with us below.
Question #5
Read carefully Hebrews
1:5-14. Notice the author spends the rest of the chapter quoting from
the Psalms to make his point. Remember the original readers were Jewish
Christians. These Messianic passages from the Old Testament would have
been familiar. As you read the following verses from the Psalms, turn to
the Christology section of your notebook. Add to your lists as you
read.
Psalm 89:26-27
Psalm 97:7
Question #6
Now
make another table in your notebook with two columns. Notice the
comparison the author makes between the angels and Jesus. Write down
the characteristics mentioned of the angels on one side and Jesus the
Son on the other.

What
conclusions can you draw about angels? about Jesus? Why do you think
this was significant to first century Jewish Christians in danger of
forsaking their faith in Christ? Share your answers.
