This week was a little weird. I lacked a lot of motivation to even attempt school with Sweet Pea. I've been incredibly distracted by baby Rain's worsening condition (and here) and some other personal issues. I did speak to my doctor and she said if it was confirmed (which it now is) that Rain does have Pertussis, my girls need to come in for a round of antibiotics. They have had their shots, but you don't want to take chances with something that is so serious for children. Poor baby Rain is in organ failure right now.
It was also weird week for Sweet Pea. Normally she loves school time, but this week...she was just not into it. Well, that's okay. That is one thing to keep in mind when doing school with a 2 year old, don't push it. You don't want a battle over it. Just look for little opportunities along the way to encourage learning. It is supposed to be more like play at this point anyway.
So, back to the wrap up.
These are her "friends". They go everywhere. She plays with them all day. Anytime I can, I incorporate them into her learning. The above is an example of what we did in Reading. We first lined up the letters of the alphabet. Then, I asked her to listen for the sound of the letter each friend started with. This was a great practice for her. If you were to ask her what sound each letter makes, she'd tell you. But the application of that knowledge is more difficult. She did very well though. We will still need to hone that skill much more though.
Oh, and excuse the naked doll. She took a bath with Sweet Pea and we couldn't find her clothes. :/
For Math we incorporated counting of her "friends". We are working on counting objects orally to 20. Also, we played Number Basketball. I used to play this with my students. Take 10 pieces of paper with the numerals 1-10 on each. Call out a number. They choose the correct numeral, wad up the paper, and toss it into a basket/trash can. We used a laundry basket for Sweet Pea. She loved it! Sorry no pics on this...my memory card was full.
For Science we continued learning about the body. We talked about her mouth, arms, hair, and body. She made art with lipstick and her mouth. (She loved that one). We did all sorts of gross motor fun for arms and body. Plus she got to brush Mommy's hair to learn about hair. She enjoyed doing that. I did too. I also checked out some books on the body at the library. She was completely amazed that she had bones inside her. I love seeing the wonder on her face as she learns something new.
Well, that's about it for us this week. Maybe next week will be better. And hopefully I'll have some good news to report about baby Rain.
